August 23, 2011
In July, the Central Bank's business confidence indicator (indice de Confianza Empresarial) rose to 51 points from 47 points in June. As a result of the monthly improvement, the index moved above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism, suggesting that a majority of firms was optimistic about economic prospects for the next three months. According to the survey, the sectors that experienced more upbeat business confidence were transport and telecommunications, as well as electricity. The July outturn reflected firms' increasing optimism about their sales prospects for the next three months, and that a majority of firms expect to take on more staff in the coming months.
