Panama: Economic activity steps up in February
April 25, 2011
In February, the economy expanded 9.9% over the same month last year, according to the monthly indicator of economic activity (IMAE, indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). The reading was well above the 6.6% increase observed in January and represented the fastest pace of growth since September 2008. A month-on-month comparison corroborates the firm expansion suggested by the annual data, as economic activity soared 2.29% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms (January: +0.73% month-on-month). Accordingly, the trend continued to point upwards, with annual average growth in economic activity jumping from 6.5% in January to 7.0% in February, which represented the fastest pace since March 2009.
