Norway: Industrial production in December contracts for third consecutive month

In December, industrial production decreased 0.94% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, which marked a deterioration compared to the 0.70% contraction recorded in November. December’s fall reflected decreases in all components of the index, with the largest contraction found in mining and quarrying.

In annual terms, industrial production dropped 2.0%, marking a deterioration compared to the 1.8% decrease recorded in November. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production fell from 1.2% in November to 0.7% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.2% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production also will increase 2.7%.
