Netherlands: Manufacturing production continues to accelerate in February
April 8, 2011
In February, manufacturing output expanded 9.5% over the same month the year before, up from the 6.9% expansion recorded in January (previously reported: +7.3% year-on-year). The increase was mostly driven by substantial growth in the production of transport equipment and was also supported by higher output in electrical and machinery industries. A month-on-month analysis corroborates the robustness of the annual figure, as manufacturing output increased 1.1% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms (January: +2.8% mom). On the other hand, the broader industrial production index added a meagre 0.6% year-on-year, slightly up from the subdued 0.2% increase observed in January. As a result, the trend deteriorated, with the annual average variation in industrial production falling from 6.4% in January to 5.9% in February.
