Netherlands: Manufacturing output slows in December
February 8, 2011
In December, manufacturing output rose 4.7% over the same month the previous year, down from the 5.4% expansion recorded in November. The increase was mostly driven by buoyant production of transport equipment, supported by higher output in electrical and machinery industries as well as in basic metals and metal products. A month-on-month analysis points to an even weaker performance than implied by the annual figure, as manufacturing output contracted 0.4% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms (November: +0.6% mom). The broader industrial production index grew 4.8% year-on-year, down from the 6.6% increase registered in November. As a result, the trend continued to improve, with the annual average variation in industrial production inching up from 6.9% in November to 7.1% in December.
