Netherlands: Manufacturing output rises in November
January 13, 2011
In November, manufacturing output increased 5.1% over the same month last year, slightly down from the 5.2% expansion recorded in October but well above market expectations, which had manufacturing expanding 4.7%. November's increase was mostly driven by buoyant production of transport equipment, supported by higher output in electrical and machinery industries as well as in basic metals and metal products. A month-on-month analysis corroborates the strong growth implied by the annual figure, as manufacturing output increased 0.5% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms (October: +1.7% mom). The broader industrial production index grew 6.3% year-on-year, up from the 6.0% increase registered in October. The trend continues to improve, with the annual average variation in industrial production jumping from 6.0% in October to 6.7% in November.
