Netherlands Consumer Confidence June 2017

Netherlands: Consumer confidence unchanged at high levels in June

June 21, 2017

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence indicator produced by Statistics Netherlands in June remained unchanged at May’s plus 23 points. The index thus remained comfortably above the 0-point threshold which indicates that optimistic consumers outnumber pessimistic consumers.

Consumer confidence remained unchanged as more upbeat sentiment regarding consumers’ personal financial situation and a higher willingness to buy was offset by a slightly less optimistic view of the economic climate. The latter was likely due in part to the uncertainty generated by the current political gridlock, in which the country has been stuck since last March’s elections.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 2.0% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel expects private consumption to grow 1.5%.
