Netherlands Consumer Confidence November 2016

Netherlands: Consumer confidence remains unchanged at high level in November

November 18, 2016

Dutch consumer sentiment remained unchanged at a very high level in November. The seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence indicator produced by Statistics Netherlands in November stayed at October’s plus 12 points, which had marked the highest reading since August 2007. The index thus remained well above the 0-point threshold, which indicates that optimistic consumers outnumber pessimistic consumers.

Consumer confidence remained unchanged because the more positive assessment in households’ future financial situation was offset by a slightly weaker willingness to buy.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 1.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2017, the panel expects private consumption to accelerate and grow 1.6%, which is also unchanged from last month’s projection.
