Netherlands: Consumer confidence inches down in February

February 20, 2015

The seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence indicator produced by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) inched down from January’s minus 6.0 points to minus 7.0 points in February. As a result, the index moved marginally further below the 0-point threshold, which indicates that pessimists outnumber optimists.

According to the CBS, consumer confidence in February decreased slightly as they assessed the general economic climate as slightly more negative. However, their willingness to buy was unchanged over the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 0.8% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2016, the panel expects private consumption to grow 0.9%.
