Netherlands: Consumer confidence falls into neutral territory in April

The seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence indicator produced by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) fell from March’s 2.0 points to 0.0 points in April. While in March the index had been above the 0-point threshold, which indicates that optimists outnumber pessimists, for the first time since August 2007, in April the index moved back into neutral territory.

Consumer confidence in April moderated mainly as consumers were less optimistic about the economic climate. In addition, their willingness to buy recorded a slight decrease.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption expanding 1.0% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2016, the panel also expects private consumption to grow 1.0%.
