Netherlands: Dutch business confidence starts year at multi-year high
January 30, 2017
The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, rose from December’s 4.7 to 6.0 in January, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The index therefore hit an almost nine-year high and moved further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.
According to the CBS, the improvement reflected producers’ more positive views regarding future output over the next three months as well as about their order books. They were also upbeat about their stocks of finished products. In terms of specific sectors, producers in the wood and construction industry were by far the most optimistic, followed by producers in the petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic industries.
