Netherlands Business Confidence February 2017

Netherlands: Dutch business confidence hits multi-year high in February

February 27, 2017

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, rose from 6.0 in January to 7.0 in February, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The result marked a nine-year high and was further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, the improvement reflected producers’ more positive views regarding future output and order books over the next three months. On the other hand, they were slightly more negative about their stocks of finished products. In terms of specific sectors, producers in the wood and construction industry were by far the most optimistic, followed by producers in the textiles, clothes and leather industry.

For 2017, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 3.5%, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.1%.
