Netherlands Business Confidence March 2016

Netherlands: Businesses somewhat more confident in March

March 30, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, increased from February’s 3.1 to 3.9 in March, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). As a result, the index moved farther above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, March’s improvement mainly reflected that producers turned more positive about their future output in the next three months. Conversely, manufacturers’ assessment of their order books was more pessimistic than in February, while their opinion regarding stocks of finished products was broadly stable. Sector-wise, producers in the wood and construction industry were most upbeat.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.6%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.5%.
