Netherlands: Businesses slightly more optimistic in September

September 24, 2015

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, inched up from August’s 3.5 to 3.8 in September, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The result marked a three-month high. As a result, the index remained above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, September’s improvement mainly reflected that Dutch producers were more optimistic over their order books and stocks of finished products. However, their assessment of their future output in the next three months was slightly more pessimistic. Moreover, job prospects among manufacturers improved in September.

For 2015, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 5.6%, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.1%.
