Netherlands: Businesses more confident in April

April 24, 2015

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, rose from 1.4 points in March to a four-month high of 3.3 points in April, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This marks the first increase after three months with moderating sentiment. As a result, the index moved a bit further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, April’s improvement resulted from the fact that manufactures were much more positive about their future output and slightly more positive about their stocks of finished products. Businesses’ opinions on their order books were unchanged in April.

For 2015, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 3.5%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 2.9%.
