Netherlands: Businesses confidence reaches highest level in over three years

July 25, 2014

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, edged up from June’s 0.7 points to 1.2 points in July according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Businesses have not been this confident since June 2011. As a result of the moderate increase, the index remained above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, overall business confidence improved mainly because businesses assessed their orders more positively. Furthermore, while producers’ assessments of their stocks improved a bit over the previous month, they were somewhat less optimistic regarding production in the next three months.

For 2014, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.6%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.1%.
