Netherlands: Businesses confidence moderates in August

August 25, 2014

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, edged down from July’s 1.2 points to 0.0 points in August according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This marks the lowest level in business confidence since February this year. As a result of the mild decrease, the index now exactly matches the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, overall business confidence moderated mainly because businesses assessed their orders more negatively. In addition, producers were less optimistic regarding production in the next three months. Conversely, producers’ assessments of their stocks of finished products improved over the previous month.

For 2014, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.6%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.1%.
