Netherlands: Businesses confidence jumps to over-three-year high

October 27, 2014

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, rose from September’s minus 0.2 points to plus 2.0 points in October, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This marks the highest level in business confidence since May 2011. As a result of the notable increase, the index is again above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, October’s improvement in overall business confidence occurred primarily because businesses assessed production in the next three months and their order positions much more positively, which more than offset the fact that manufactures were slightly less positive regarding their stocks of finished products.

For 2014, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 1.2%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 2.2%, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
