Netherlands Business Confidence February 2016

Netherlands: Businesses confidence broadly stable in February

February 26, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, decreased marginally from January’s 3.2 to 3.1 in February, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). As a result, the index still rests above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, February’s minor setback mainly reflected that Dutch producers were less optimistic about their stocks of finished products. Conversely, producers assessed their future output in the next three months as well as their order books more positively than in January. Sector-wise, producers in the wood and construction as well as in the food, beverages and tobacco industries were most upbeat.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 3.8%, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.8%.
