Netherlands Business Confidence April 2016

Netherlands: Business confidence strengthens to nearly-one-year high in April

April 28, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, increased from March’s 3.9 to 4.7 in April, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). As a result, the index hit an over-five-year high and moved farther above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, April’s improvement mainly reflected that producers turned more positive about their order books and their stocks of finished products. By contrast, they became less optimistic regarding their future output in the next three months. Sector-wise, producers in the wood and construction industry remained the most upbeat.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.6%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.5%.
