Netherlands Business Confidence June 2016

Netherlands: Business confidence rises to highest level in more than five years in June

June 29, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, increased from May’s 4.4 to 5.4 in June, marking the highest reading since March 2011, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The index is now even further above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, the improvement reflected that producers were more positive about all three component indicators: their order books, their future output and their stocks of finished products. In terms of specific sectors, producers in the wood and construction industry remained the most optimistic by far, followed by manufacturers in the petroleum and chemical industry.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.8%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.3%.
