Netherlands: Business confidence remains virtually unchanged
June 24, 2013
The seasonally adjusted producer confidence indicator elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) crept up from minus 4.2 points in May to minus 4.1 points in June. However, the index still remains well below the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment, where it has idled since June 2011.
According to the CBS, businesses were less pessimistic about their order position and the stocks of finished products improved compared to May. In addition, respondents seemed slightly more optimistic about their expected output levels over the next three months. Meanwhile, future employment expectations remained stable with a negative outlook.
For 2013, the panel sees fixed investment contracting 4.5%, which is down 1.7 percentage points from last month's Consensus. For 2014, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 1.1%.
