Netherlands Business Confidence May 2016

Netherlands: Business confidence moderates slightly but remains high in May

May 30, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, decreased from April’s 4.7 to 4.4 in May, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Despite the decrease, the index remains well above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, the slight deterioration mainly reflected that producers were not as positive about their future output. In contrast, they were more optimistic regarding their future order books in the next three months. In terms of specific sectors, producers in the wood and construction industry remained the most optimistic by far.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 5.0%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.4%.
