Netherlands: Business confidence increases in May

May 26, 2014

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, increased to a seasonally-adjusted 0.7 points in May according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The figure is up from the 0.3 points recorded in April and thus the index is still just above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, the modest increase in business confidence was mainly due to the fact that businesses were more satisfied with their stocks of finished products and less pessimistic regarding order positions. By contrast, they were less optimistic regarding their future output.

For 2014, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 4.4%, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.3%.
