Netherlands: Business confidence improves

Business sentiment improved slightly in August after reaching a 30-month low in July. The seasonally adjusted producer confidence indicator elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) rose to minus 4.6 points from minus 5.2 points in July. Despite the monthly improvement, the index remains well below the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment. According to the CBS, businesses were slightly less pessimistic about their output in the next three months as well as regarding their stocks of finished products. In addition, opinions regarding order positions were virtually unchanged. In addition, manufacturers were somewhat less pessimistic about employment in the near term.
