Netherlands: Business confidence drops in October; stays in optimistic territory

October 26, 2015

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, fell from September’s 3.8 to 2.4 in October, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Nevertheless, the index still rests above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, October’s slight setback mainly reflected that Dutch producers were less optimistic about their stocks of finished products and their order books. Conversely, they grew more confident regarding their future output in the next three months.

For 2015, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 8.1%, which is up 0.8 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.9%, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s Consensus.
