Netherlands Business Confidence November 2016

Netherlands: Business confidence dips in November

November 29, 2016

The producer confidence indicator, which measures Dutch manufacturers’ sentiment, decreased from October’s 4.3 to 3.4 in November, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), although it remained comfortably above the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment.

According to the CBS, the improvement reflected the fact that producers had become less positive regarding future output and order books over the next three months but more positive about their stock of finished products. Producers still have a largely positive outlook on all three areas. In terms of specific sectors, producers in the wood and construction and textile industries were the most optimistic, while the transport equipment sector was the only sector in which sentiment was mainly negative.

For 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment growing 6.2%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 3.2%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection.
