Mexico: Confidence in the manufacturing sector rises in February
March 1, 2012
In February, the manufacturing index elaborated by the Mexican Institute of Financial Executives (IMEF, Instituto Mexicano de Ejecutivos de Finanzas) rose to 54.3 points from 51.7 points in January. The reading, which marked the highest value since March 2007, was 1.5 points above the level seen in the same month last year. Moreover, the reading moved higher above the 50-point threshold that suggests an expansion. According to the IMEF, the index is getting closer to the historical levels observed between February and April 2006, which indicates that activity in the manufacturing sector will continue expanding in the near future, even faster than the current pace.
