Malaysia: Inflation increases in November

December 17, 2014

Consumer prices increased 0.5% in November over the previous month, which matched October’s print. November’s result was mainly driven by a spike in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Annual inflation increased from 2.8% in October to 3.0% in November. The result overshot market expectations of a 2.7% increase. Annual average inflation held at 3.2% for the fourth consecutive month, continuing the highest level in almost three years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 4.0% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel sees inflation falling to 3.1%.
