Malaysia: Inflation inches up in December

Consumer prices were unchanged in December after climbing 0.6% in November. December’s result observed a large increase in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, offsetting stark decreases in the prices of transportation.

Inflation inched up from 2.6% in November to 2.7% in December. The tally matched market expectations. Annual average inflation in December was steady at November’s 2.1%, which marked the lowest figure since December 2013.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 2.9% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees inflation rising to 2.7%.
