Malaysia: Inflation decreases in September

October 17, 2014

Consumer prices increased 0.2% in September over the previous month, which matched the result from August. September’s result was mainly driven by much higher prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

Annual inflation decreased from 3.3% in August to 2.6% in September, which met market expectations. The result marked the lowest rate of inflation in a year. Annual average inflation held at August’s 3.2% in September, which marked the highest level in almost three years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 3.3% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel sees inflation rising to 3.6%.
