Malaysia: Inflation declines in June

July 23, 2021

Consumer prices rose 0.08% in June over the previous month, following May’s flat reading. The figure was primarily due to rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. That said, prices for transportation tumbled over the previous month.

Inflation came in at 3.4% in June, which was down from May’s 4.4%. June's result represented the weakest inflation rate since March. The annual average variation of consumer prices rose to 0.4% in June, coming above May’s flat result.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 2.4% in 2021, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast, and 1.9% in 2022.
