Malaysia: Industrial production slows in December
February 8, 2013
In December, industrial production expanded 3.7% over the same month the previous year. The print followed the 7.1% rise tallied in November and marked, in fact, the lowest level in four months. In addition, the reading fell short of market expectations, which had industrial output rising 6.0%. The slowdown seen in December was broad-based, as all three main sub-categories decelerated over the previous month.
A month-on-month analysis corroborates the deceleration suggested by the annual figures, as industrial production contracted 2.3% in seasonally adjusted terms, contrasting the 1.4% rise tallied in November.
In the full year 2012, industrial production expanded 4.2%, which was well above the 1.2% increase seen in 2011.
