Malaysia: Industrial production remains on the upside in November
January 10, 2013
In November, industrial production expanded 7.5% over the same month the previous year. The print followed the 5.8% rise tallied in October and marked, in fact, the largest increase in six months. In addition, the reading overshot market expectations, which had industrial output rising 5.9%. The improvement seen in November was broad-based as all three main sub-categories improved over the previous month. In particular, large gains were seen in manufacturing output.
A month-on-month analysis corroborates the improvement suggested by the annual figures, as industrial production expanded 1.4% in seasonally adjusted terms, up from the 0.7% rise tallied in October.
Building on the healthy performance seen in recent months, the trend continues to point upwards, with annual average growth in industrial production rising from 3.6% in October to 4.1% in November.
