Malaysia: Industrial production broadly stable in April
June 11, 2014
Industrial production expanded 4.2% in April over the same month last year. The figure was broadly in line with both the 4.3% increase observed in March and market expectations of a 4.1% rise. April’s result was driven by a rebound in the mining sector, which expanded at the fastest pace in nine months.
On a monthly basis, industrial production increased a seasonally-adjusted 3.6% in April, which contrasted the 0.2% decline that was observed in March and marked the fastest pace of growth in a year. Annual average growth in industrial production inched down from 4.6% in March to 4.5% in April.
