Malaysia: Industrial production accelerates further in November
January 10, 2014
Industrial production expanded 4.4% in November over the same month of the previous year. The figure marked an acceleration compared to the 1.7% increase observed in October and overshot market expectations of a 2.9% rise. November's acceleration was led by growth in the electricity sector, while manufacturing and mining also increased.
On a monthly basis, industrial production increased a seasonally-adjusted 3.6% in November, which was double the 1.8% expansion that was observed in October. However, annual average growth in industrial production decreased from 2.9% in October to 2.7% in November.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 4.8% in 2014, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month's projection. In 2015, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.8%.
