Malaysia: Industrial production inches down in June

August 10, 2015

Industrial production increased 4.4% in June over the same month last year, which came in just below the 4.5% increase tallied in May. June’s reading was the outcome of increases in the mining and manufacturing components, which more than offset a contraction in electricity production.

On a monthly basis, industrial production recorded flat growth in June over the previous month. The reading was below May’s 1.5% increase. As a result of June’s reading, annual average growth in industrial production inched down from 5.4% in May to 5.2% in June, the lowest reading in six months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.9% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2016, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.4%.
