Industrial production grew 6.1% in July from the same month last year, above June’s 4.0% increase. The figure beat market expectations of a softer 5.3% increase. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, July’s acceleration was mainly the result of stronger growth in the manufacturing and electricity sectors.
On a monthly basis, industrial production increased a seasonally-adjusted 1.4% in July, below June’s 1.9% rise. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production edged up to 4.6% from June’s 4.4%.
