Malaysia: Industrial production expands in March

April 10, 2015

Industrial production increased 6.9% in March over the same month last year, which came in above the 5.1% increase tallied in February and overshot the 4.5% increase markets had expected. March’s reading was the result of increases in all components of the index.

On a monthly basis, industrial production increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.6% over the previous month, which marked the highest reading in three months. The figure contrasted February’s 0.3% decrease. As a result of March’s expansion, annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 5.3% in February to 5.5% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.9% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2016, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.4%.
