Malaysia: Industrial production accelerates to 11-month high in June

August 11, 2014

Industrial production expanded 6.9% in June over the same month last year. The figure was up from the 6.0% increase observed in May and beat market expectations of a 4.6% rise. June’s result, which marked the highest growth since July of last year, was driven by solid growth in the manufacturing and electricity sectors.

On a monthly basis, industrial production increased a seasonally-adjusted 0.5% in June, which was down from the 1.3% expansion that was observed in May. Annual average growth in industrial production increased from 4.5% in May to 4.8% in June, which represented the highest level since March 2011.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 4.7% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. In 2015, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.3%.
