Malaysia: Growth in industrial production recovers in December

Industrial production increased 2.7% in December over the same month last year. The figure came in above the 1.9% increase tallied in November. December’s result was driven by the increases in consists of mining and electricity.

On a monthly basis, industrial production grew 2.8%, which contrasted November’s 1.1% contraction. In spite of December’s monthly increase, annual average growth in industrial production fell to 4.5% from November’s 4.9%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.0%
