Malaysia: Growth in industrial production picks up again in January

March 11, 2016

Industrial production increased 3.3% in January over the same month last year. The figure came in above the 2.7% increase tallied in December. January’s result was driven by the strong gains in the manufacturing and electricity indices.

On a monthly basis, industrial production grew 0.5%, which was a sharp slowdown compared to December’s 1.5% increase. As a result, annual average growth in industrial production fell to 4.2% from December’s 4.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.1% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.0%
