Malaysia: Growth in industrial production moderates in October

December 10, 2015

Industrial production increased 4.2% in October over the same month last year, which came in below the 5.1% increase tallied in September. October’s result was driven by strong gains in the manufacturing and electrical components of the index, while the mining component contracted.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 0.4%, after having increased 2.4% in September. As a result of October’s monthly decrease, annual average growth in industrial production fell to 4.2% from September’s 5.1%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.3% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects industrial output to expand 4.0%
