Malaysia: Growth in industrial production falls in March

Industrial production increased 2.8% in March over the same month last year. The figure came in below the 3.9% increase tallied in February. March’s result showed strong increases in the manufacturing and electrical components of the index, while the mining component decreased.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 0.4%, which contrasted February’s 0.9% increase. As a result, annual average growth in industrial production fell to 3.8% from February’s 4.1%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 3.4% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects industrial output to expand 3.5%
