Malaysia: Growth in industrial production accelerates in September

November 10, 2015

Industrial production increased 5.1% in September over the same month last year, which came in above the 3.0% increase tallied in August. September’s result was driven by a rebound in the mining sector and solid growth in manufacturing. On the other hand, the electricity sector decelerated significantly in September.

On a monthly basis, industrial production expanded 1.7%, after contracting 0.9% in August. Despite September’s monthly increase, annual average growth in industrial production in September was steady at August’s 5.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will grow 4.0% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. In 2016, the panel expects industrial output to expand 3.3%, which is also unchanged from last month’s projection.
