Lithuania: Inflation continues to climb in March

April 20, 2017

Consumer prices in Lithuania rose 1.1% in March from the previous month, which was above the 0.4% increase observed in February. According to the Statistical Institute, the figure mostly reflected higher prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, and clothing and footwear.

Inflation came in at 3.1% in March. This was marginally above February’s 3.0% and marked the highest reading in over four years. Meanwhile, harmonized inflation (based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices) came in at 3.2% in March, matching February’s reading. Annual average HICP inflation rose from 1.1% in February to 1.3% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to reach 1.6% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel sees inflation accelerating to 2.2%.
