Lithuania: Inflation continues to climb in April

Consumer prices in Lithuania rose 1.0% in April from the previous month, which was marginally down from the 1.1% increase observed in March. According to the Statistical Institute, the figure mostly reflected higher prices for clothing and footwear, vegetables and transport.

Inflation came in at 3.6% in April. This was above March’s 3.1% and marked the highest reading in over five years. Meanwhile, harmonized inflation (based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices) came in at 3.5% in April, up from March’s 3.2%. Annual average HICP inflation rose from 1.3% in March to 1.5% in April.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to reach 1.6% in 2017, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2018, the panel sees inflation accelerating to 2.2%.
