Lithuania: Industrial production growth accelerates to two-year high in June

July 21, 2017

Lithuania´s industrial production jumped 10.0% year-on-year in June, a significant acceleration from May’s revised 7.9% expansion (previously reported: +8.0 yoy). June’s strong result, which marked a two-year high, was driven by a broad-based expansion, with the mining and quarrying output skyrocketing, the manufacturing sector rising robustly and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector expanding, albeit mildly.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial production declined 0.7% in seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms (May: 3.7% mom). The overall trend continued to improve in June as annual average growth rose from 3.9% in May to an over one-year high of 4.8%.

Analysts surveyed by FocusEconomics expect industrial production to expand 3.9% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects industrial output growth of 3.6%.
