Lithuania: Industrial production growth accelerates to four-month high in May

June 21, 2017

Lithuania´s industrial production jumped 8.0% year-on-year in May, a significant acceleration from April’s revised 2.3% expansion (previously reported: +1.8 yoy). May’s strong result, which marked a four-month high, was driven by a broad-based expansion, with the mining and quarrying output skyrocketing and the manufacturing and the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector rising robustly.

A month-on-month comparison showed that industrial production expanded 3.7% in seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms (April: -0.6% m-o-m). The overall trend continued to improve in May as annual average growth rose from 3.5% in April to a one-year high of 3.9%.

Analysts surveyed by FocusEconomics expect industrial production to expand 3.9% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects industrial output growth of 3.6%.
