Lithuania: Expansion in industrial productions eases in February

March 21, 2016

Industrial production expanded 5.5% annually in February, which came in below the revised 8.2% increase registered in January (previously reported: +9.4 year-on-year). February’s reading came on the back of an increase in three of the four components of the index, which more than offset a contraction in the electricity, gas and steam component.

Sequential data showed that industrial production expanded a seasonally- and working-day adjusted 2.4% in February, which marked an acceleration from January’s 1.3% increase.

As a result, the trend stabilized. Annual average growth in industrial production in February increased 5.7%, thus matching January’s reading.

Analysts surveyed by FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast expect industrial production to expand 4.0% in 2016, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel expects growth in industrial output to reach 4.2%.
